In 2007, the WVU Black Alumni Association established a named endowed scholarship housed at the WVU Foundation with a minimum donation level of $25,000 dollars. This scholarship was presented in the names of the late Mr. Horace and Mrs. Geraldine Belmear. The Belmear’s were employees of West Virginia University and noted pillars of the community. The couple was known for sharing their time and wisdom to ensure that African-American students could and would achieve their goals while attending West Virginia University. During the Black Alumni Weekend in 2005, a group of Belmear students and WVU Alumni challenged themselves and the business community to raise funds for this endowment scholarship. Through collaboration and support for the scholarship, we have since generated over $17,000 dollars. We are well on our way to completing the first phase of commitment to the scholarship at the lowest level. However, time is of the essence and the endowment must meet the minimum threshold of $25,000 dollars in 5 years or the funds will be forfeited over to the general scholarship fund. This would also mean that the naming of the Belmear’s scholarship would be dropped. We are asking that you consider donating to such a wonderful cause and sharing our mission as it pertains to the Belmear’s Endowment throughout the WVU community of friends. Thank you,
